African Drummer Latyr Sy Beats Japan Down

African percussionist and Senegal Native Latyr Sy has been drumming in Japan for the past 15 years. He brought his beats to the United Colors of Benetton fall/winter 2008 fashion show to support Benetton's "Africa Works" campaign.

Our 'About Us' section has some of the history of JAFA and a little about the things we do and the kinds of people who are members. This section addresses a few of the questions that often crop up, from people like yourselves....

Q: What type of events does JAFA Tokyo have?

A: Primarily we host and support social networking eventsĀ  which help promote cross-cultural understanding. Recently we have held an annual Black History Month (February) Celebration, Junetheenth/Black Music Month Event (June).

We also, support other organizations who host events which have a multi-cultural focus. We also like to promote small events such are poetry reading, book club, entrepreneur networking etc. If you have an event you'd like to organize with JAFA, let us know.
